Clinical Case Consultations Support Your Professional Growth as a Neuro-affirming Therapist

Clinical case consultation is invaluable for therapists at any stage of their career. It offers fresh insights into your clients’ challenges and neurodivergent traits, uncovers new directions to explore in your work, and enhances your skillset, helping you get unstuck and feel inspired again.

As therapists, it is crucial for us to acknowledge the full weight of trauma and grief our neurodivergent clients experience from being marginalized and oppressed. Our society views neurotypical functioning as the “correct” way, treating neurodivergent people as wrong and invalid.

Case Consultations with Dr. Tasha Oswald, PhD, and Cindy Brown, LPCC, provide a dedicated space to challenge neuro-normative biases, identify the real trauma and grief your neurodivergent clients face, and learn effective tools to support your clients’ healing journey.

In both 1-on-1 and group case consultations, you’ll learn to:

  • Reconceptualize cases through a neurodivergent lens
  • Implement neuro-affirming strategies
  • Address your neuronormative biases

A neurodiversity-affirming approach involves a shift in mindset as well as skill set. You shift your mindset from viewing neurodivergence, such as autism or ADHD, as a deficit to a difference in perception, communication, and social functioning. You see your client as the expert on their lived experience, leading to a collaborative approach. You develop skills that support your client’s neuroaffirming self-care practices, self-acceptance, and advocacy skills.
