I Think My Adult Client Might Be Autistic: How Can I Tell?

Free Webinar: PART 1 (3-Part Series Webinar)

Webinar Date: Tuesday, June 24, 2025

Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm PST

Location: Zoom

Topic: Are you curious if a client may be autistic or neurodivergent? As professionals, we often do not receive training on autism in adulthood, yet it’s our responsibility to support our clients in recognizing their neurodivergent identity. This is key because a client’s neurodivergence shapes all aspects of their life, from relationships to careers, and the work they do in session with you. It can be difficult to recognize neurodivergence in your clients because they may be good at masking their traits. Learn to reframe traits through a neurodivergent lens, such as viewing anxiety as sensory overload or depression as autistic burnout. This webinar will introduce concepts to help you recognize autistic traits in your adult clients, increasing your awareness of neuro-affirming clinical approaches.

I Think My Adult Client Might Be Autistic: Am I The Right Therapist For Them?

Free Webinar: PART 3 (3-Part Series Webinar)

Webinar Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2025

Time: 9:00am-10:00am PST

Location: Zoom

Topic: While working with an adult client, you may begin to notice autistic traits, or they might share their own suspicions with you. For example, they may mention that their child received an autism diagnosis recently, prompting them to wonder if they might be autistic too. At this point, you may question whether you’re the best therapist for them. Concerns may arise about your level of training in autism and causing unintended harm to your client. You may worry about referring them out if you have already established a good therapeutic rapport with them. You might even grapple with feelings of inadequacy or imposter syndrome, particularly if you’re neurotypical. This webinar will help you navigate these concerns with compassion, offering practical guidance and clear next steps to effectively support your neurodivergent clients while maintaining ethical and affirming care.

Rethinking & Supporting Autism in Adults: A Neurodiversity-Affirming Approach

Conference: 48th Annual Psychotherapy Networker Symposium

Workshop Date: March 22, 2025 (Conference Dates: March 20-23, 2025)

Time: 3:00pm-5:00pm EST

Location: Online and Live in Washington, DC

Topic: Many adult clients entering therapy don’t know they’re autistic, and it can be hard for their therapists to recognize their neurodivergence because they mask their autistic traits and might not fit therapist stereotypes of autism. Yet, neurodivergent wiring shapes every aspect of their life, including their therapy. In this workshop, you will: (1) Gain confidence in identifying autistic traits and “masking” in your adult clients, (2) Understand the unique challenges and experiences of autistic adults to effectively support treatment and build therapeutic rapport, (3) Support your clients in exploring and embracing their autistic identity, and (4) Integrate a neurodiversity-affirming mindset and strategies into your clinical practice with ease.
